| From Barcelona it is necessary to take a train to Lleida and from there another one to Tremp. There is no through train. Connections and timetables can make this a long journey, particulaly now that there is only one train from Lleida to Tremp/Pobla and Pobla/Tremp to Lleida per day. However if the journey is planned so that there are no extended waiting periods between trains this is the most pleasant and comfortable way of getting to this area by public transport. There is a high-speed train called the Avant, which takes about an hour and ten minutes from Barcelona to Lleida and is subsidised by the government of Catalunya. Timetables and prices can be checked with RENFE at http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html)
If you do intend to use the Spanish railways network and are over 60 years of age then it is worth purchasing a Tarjeta Dorada (which is a Spanish over sixties rail card) as savings can be from 25-40% off train ticket prices. The Tarjeta Dorada only costs about 5 Euros per person for a year and can be bought from the main railway stations prior to buying the tickets. All that is needed is a proof of identity and age with a passport or identity card. You do not need to be a resident. This card is also valid on the AVE |

After Tarrega take the C53 (was C148) to Balaguer via Anglesola and Bellcaire, then a couple of kilometres before Balaguer take the C13 (was C1313) in the direction of Andorra and Artessa de Segre. After a few kilometres from Balaguer take a left turn, still on the C13 (was C147) and follow this road to Tremp.
