TRAIN
From Barcelona it is necessary to take a train to Lleida/Lerida and from there another one to Tremp. There is no through train. Connections and timetables can make this a long journey (it is best to check with RENFE http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html) and there is very little saving, if any, in the cost of tickets.
CAR
From Barcelona: The most comfortable route is to leave Barcelona in the direction of Lleida ( = Catalan spelling) or Lerida (=Spanish spelling) on the A2 (was previously the N2/N11).

Follow the signs for Lleida bye-passing Esparreguera, Igualada, Cervera and Tarrega. After Tarrega take the C53 (was C148) to Balaguer via Anglesola and Bellcaire, then a couple of kilometres before Balaguer take the C13 (was C1313) in the direction of Andorra and Artessa de Segre. After a few kilometres from Balaguer take a left turn, still on the C13 (was C147) and follow this road to Tremp.

From the province of Girona / Costa Brava area: It is quicker to travel across on the C25 via Vic and Manresa to Cervera or travel via Barcelona and across Barcelona on the AP7. The routes across which run nearer to the border can take a very long time.

From France: The most direct entry point for this area is through Bossost (Spain) on the N230, then follow the road to Vielha, then south through the tunnel to Pont de Suert. After Pont de Suert turn left in the direction of Pobla de Segur on what is now the N260 (your map may still show it as the C144) via Perves, Sarroca de Bellera and Senterada. At Pobla turn right onto the C13 (was C147) to Tremp.

From Perpignan (France): The most direct route is N116 via Prades to Bourg-Madame (France) / Puigcerda (Spain) then N260 to Seu d'Urgell. From Seu d'Urgell follow the N260 south to Adrall, then turn right onto N260 to Sort, then turn left onto N260 south to Pobla de Segur.

From Andorra: The most direct route is from Seu d'Urgell follow the N260 south to Adrall, then turn right onto N260 to Sort, then turn left onto N260 south to Pobla de Segur.

From points south of Lerida: Leave Lerida in the direction of Andorra/La Seu d'Urgell on the C13 to Balaguer. After a few kilometres from Balaguer take a left turn, still on the C13 and follow this road to Tremp.

Road numbers in Catalonia have been changed on many signs since 2001. The Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya have published a map with the new road numbers (Mapa de carreteres de Catalunya 1:250 000) their web site is http://www.icc.es.
